Alumni Association Meeting Notes 2/12/08

Arts Magnet Alumni Association

Tuesday, February 12, 2008; 7:00pm

Location: Brainfood, 4153 Commerce St., Dallas 

Members in Attendance:

Patty Arellano, Juliana Williams, Angela Randall, CeCe Howard, Sharon Cornell, Ean Schuessler, Teyah O'Quinn, Cortney Palomo and Carin Thompson. Rhonda Tankerson via conference call.

 

·       Sharon Modaberri Cornell announced that the Alumni Association has naming rights to the Archive Room.

·       Sub-committees for the Re-Creations Weekend were announced. These committees were based on the sign-up sheet from the January 31st meeting. Cross-committee suggestions and ideas are encouraged and welcome. Please contact the Chair of the event or the entire committee to share information.

·       Rhonda Tankerson shared PR ideas via conference call. Using weekly publications in major cities with Arts Alumni was suggested (similar to the Dallas Observer). LA/San Fran/NY were some cities that were suggested to start off with. Locally we will use radio, The Observer, DMN, etc.

Friday, June 6: Alumni Art Show and Performance

Arts Magnet-FREE

·       Sharon Modaberri Cornell resigned as Chair and Carin Thompson is now the Chair.

·       This will be a formal concert with a reception at 6:30 and the show starting at 7:00 or 7:30.

·       Tribute: Dr. Rosann Cox, Dr. Doug Cornell, and Mrs. Louise Smith. These three teachers started Arts.

·       Presenting the Pegasus Award (sculpture) was discussed. Patty Eldridge is the contact person on this.

·       Honoring academic teachers who have given multiple years of service was also discussed. Some names that came up were Dolores Arnold, Debra Womack and Uverne Johnson.

·       A tribute to teachers who have passed was also discussed. Names included (but not limited to-need to do some research): Daisy Jones, Tom Iverson, Nina Johnson, Enrique Hernandez.

·       Paige will be in charge of the Art Show. Teyah expressed interest in helping and will be contacting Paige.

·       Angela Randall shared that Derique Watters would like to perform at this event.

·       Cedric Neal '92 also has expressed interest in performing.

 

Saturday, June 7: Arts Magnet Alumni Mixer

Palladium/Gilley's-$10-$15

·       CeCe Howard stated that she will be visiting Palladium and will have an extensive update by the next meeting.

·       A list of sub-committee duties and responsibilities for the event was passed out.

·       This event will be less formal than Friday night's event. Sets through out the whole event with breaks.

 

Treasurer's Report-Carin Thompson

·       The account is at Chase Bank. It is a DBA with Carin's name as sole proprietor and Paige as a co-signer. Both of their signatures need to be on all checks.

·       Need to get the account under Arts Magnet Alumni Association ASAP. Carin will have to personally do all the filing if not.

 

501(c)(3)/Old Bank of America Account

·       CeCe Howard has a person at the IRS she will be contacting to figure out the 501(c)(3).

·       Ean gave CeCe all the necessary paperwork pertaining to this matter.

 The next meeting was set for Thursday, March 6, 7:00pm at Brainfood. Please contact classmates and tell them the dates of the Reunion. Get volunteers!!!
