Alumni Association Meeting Notes 1/31/08

 

Arts Magnet Alumni Association

January 31, 2008; 7:00pm

Location: Brainfood, 4153 Commerce St., Dallas

 

Members in attendance:

Patty Arellano, Victoria Semos, Pauge Furr, Molly Tarver, Juliana Williams, Viviana Davila, Teyah O'Quinn, Trez McBay, Ean Schuessler, John Freeman, Carin Thompson, J. Cortney Palomo, Erik Schuessler, Cecelia (CeCe) Howard, and Sharon HM Cornell

Dates were given for the Grand Opening of the new Arts and Reunion Weekend. The dates are June 6-8, 2008.

Friday, June 6 @ Arts: Alumni Performance (Sharon HM Cornell/Terry Loftus)

Saturday, June 7 @ ? (Location TBD): Mixer (CeCe Howard)

Sunday, June 8 @? (Location TBD): Picnic/Brunch (Ean Schuessler)

  • South Dallas Cultural Center was suggested as a venue for the mixer. SDCC just had big renovation.

  • Black Forest cannot be used for the mixer due to necessary renovations.

 

Jobs for Alumni Performance & Mixer-any and all help needed

  1. Secure performers (send info to to chairs listed above)

  2. Contact classmates and get their info (phone, email, physical address)

  3. Give soul to Alumni Association a month or so in advance

  • La Calle Doce was suggested by Ean for brunch on Sunday. We need to get an idea of how many people will attend due to space constraints. It is thought that mainly Dallas alums will attend since Sunday may be a travel day for out-of-town people.

  • Sloppy World was offered for Mixer. Lots of space, drink & smoke friendly. FREE.

 

The Alumni Performance will be generated by the Alumni. Think Creations.

  • Ean and John suggested "My favorite Arts moment" montages in between acts.

  • Even representation of all clusters.

  • Cortney offered dancing by himself and classmates.

  • Friday night more formal (concert); Saturday Mixer more loose (jam session).

Building Campaign

  • Alumni Association gave $3000 at beginning of campaign.

  • Need $300 more to be able to name archive room.

Restructuring of Alumni Association as a 501(c)(3)

  • We need structure.

  • We have some tax issues and old paperwork that needs to be taken care of ASAP. Preferably before June. Lawyer just returned many of these papers.

  • Questions: Do we want to elect officers? Do we want to all (people at meeting) want to be the Alumni Board of Directors?

  • Carin and Paige agreed to open a bank account for the Alumni Association in their names. The $900 from the Christmas Party will be deposited. Carin's husband is a CPA so she will see if he can offer any insight for the money and tax issues at hand.

  • Need a united front as an Alumni Association independent from the Advisory Board.

The next meeting was set for Tuesday, February 12, 7:00pm at Brainfood. Please contact classmates and tell them the dates of the Reunion. Get volunteers!!!
