PEGASUS, the mascot of ARTS MAGNET, created in 1984 by Visual Arts Students and Jerry Daniels is sitting in South Dallas, on an abandoned lot.

looking at this makes me sad. what the #(%*?

Herb Evans at 9:43am March 12
What can we do about it!
Herb Evans at 9:44am March 12
Who do we need to write, where do we send the money, there has to be something?

Joey Bonnell at 10:01am March 12
the best initial approach i can think of would be to:
a) see if we could ask Jerry Daniels to see if he'd be up for the challenge of bringing her back to a viewable state (make it a project for current Arts students)
b) if he is, find out what he'd need in the way of capital resources
c) if both are do-able present it to whoever the powers that be and position it as a tribute to those stars that left us too early (Jamie, Mary, Ashlee, etc) and those that are just coming into their own.

Hey guys, great ideas. I suggest go to artsalumni.org, sign up, and join the Discuss list. And then put your thoughts out for other alumni to see also. I know there's been discussion about Pegasus

Joey Bonnell at 1:11am March 14
so who's got Jerry's phone number?

Otis Gray at 3:32pm March 14
Rob Cooper

I am willing to help out in any way possible...It hurts to see this kind of thing happen.

Rob Edgin at 11:47am March 15
Not to bite the hand that feeds me but that is yet another reason to hate DISD

Joey Bonnell at 11:50am March 15
who is the political decision maker that would have to agree to have a refurbished pegasus back on campus?

Otis Gray at 1:03pm March 15
My guess is that the school community and principal would have to agree, and then the school board of DISD would approve it. Ill see what i can find out. I will also address this at the next alumni meeting with our new president Troy Sims.

Joey Bonnell at 1:12pm March 15
Snds good. Seems like the general strategy should be that if DISD has no interest in bringing the pegasus home, they should be agreeable of to letting those that built it the first time seek and find a permanent home. As one of the participants in the original build, I'm willing to take part in that initiative if need be. Once we get closure that we have a home for her, we can then go about determining how we will bring her back to her former charm.

As we're already beginning to see- we'll find the support to get it done.

Joey Bonnell at 1:22pm March 15
If anyone has any details as to how the original decision was made not to bring her home, would appreciate receiving such information in email so that I can better understand the dynamics.

Otis Gray at 1:33pm March 15
Joey. I'm going to copy this to the discussion list on the artsalumni.org.
Perhaps, you could create a Save Pegasus cause on FB?

Joey Bonnell at 1:51pm March 15
Otis- great idea. Will look into what that takes. Herb, you in?

 Elizabeth Emmett-Mattox at 8:04pm March 15
Alright Joe- time to kick some bureaucratic @$$. (Something I know you *love* to do.) Let me know what I can do... ditto Herb....
